Spring in Virginia means one thing to us at The Brick: race season. The temperatures are perfect, the trails are coming alive, and the race calendar is absolutely loaded. Whether you're looking for your first 5K or your next ultra adventure, here are the races we're most excited about this spring.
March 2026
Shamrock Marathon Weekend (Virginia Beach) — March 14-15: This is the big one to kick off the season. A full marathon, half marathon, 8K, and a mile run — there's something for everyone. The flat, fast course along the oceanfront makes it a great PR opportunity, and the post-race party is legendary. Several of our Brick group runners are targeting this one for their spring half marathon.
Run the Parkway 10K (Blue Ridge Parkway) — March 28: One of the most scenic 10K courses in the state. You'll run on a closed section of the Blue Ridge Parkway with views that will make you forget you're racing. It's hilly, so train accordingly, but the beauty makes every climb worth it.
April 2026
Historic Half Marathon (Fredericksburg) — April 4: A gorgeous course through one of Virginia's most charming historic towns. Rolling hills, brick-lined streets, and fantastic crowd support. The Brick crew had a strong showing here last year, and we're going back even bigger in 2026.
Smith Mountain Lake Half Marathon — April 18: Another stunner. The course winds around Smith Mountain Lake with constant water views. It's a smaller, more intimate race — perfect if you want to avoid the crowds of the bigger events. We usually carpool from Danville for this one.
Monument Avenue 10K (Richmond) — April 25: With 30,000+ runners, this is one of the largest 10K races on the East Coast. The flat, straight course down Richmond's iconic Monument Avenue makes it fast and fun. Live bands, costumes, and incredible energy from start to finish.
May 2026
Blue Ridge Marathon (Roanoke) — May 2: Billed as "America's Toughest Road Marathon," this one isn't for the faint of heart. Over 7,400 feet of elevation change on a certified road course. But if you want a challenge and bragging rights, nothing beats it. We also recommend the accompanying half marathon for a taste of the terrain.
Danville Mile & 5K — May 16: Our hometown race! The Brick is a proud sponsor of this annual event that brings our whole community together. The mile is a blast for kids and adults alike, and the 5K winds through the River District. We'll have a tent at the finish line with refreshments and plenty of high-fives.
